City of Wylie Mayor Eric Hogue delivered his annual State of the City address during a special Chamber of Commerce luncheon.

A two and a half minute video presentation titled “Action and Urgency” set the tone for the Mayor’s presentation by visually communicating many of the City’s accomplishment and projects over the past year.

Upon taking the stage, Mayor Hogue built on the theme, “This past year has been an exciting time for Wylie, Texas. It was the year that we put talk into action. We have talked about a new city hall; it is under construction. We have talked about a third fire station; it is now open for business.  We have talked about a recreation center; it is under construction. We have talked about a new library; it is under construction. We have talked about FM 1378; it is under construction.”

Mayor Hogue recognized the City Council for their dedication and commitment to the community and role in the City’s accomplishments, “As a team, we have come together with different ideas, different beliefs, different points of view and we have worked together for the betterment of our community. I’m thankful to be part of such a committed team.”

Highlights of the 30 minute speech included references to our sales tax increase even in the face of the challenging economic times; the grand opening of Target; a current and future

investment of more than 21 miles of new and reconstructed roadways at a cost of $50 million; a drop in Wylie’s crime rate for the second year in a row; growth of the Smith Public Library; the City’s bond rating upgrade; improvements to Olde City Park; recognition of City employees; importance of community involvement; focus of open communications; Wylie’s quality of life; and construction of the new Municipal Complex.

Mayor Hogue closed the State of the City Address by saying, “We will continue to face some very important challenges as the future unfolds and I would urge you to be a part of the discussion...In reviewing our accomplishments for the year, I realize just how much we all care about our community and how hard we all work to make this city such an amazing place…I would also like to thank the many citizens who have also contributed to our success – whether you serve on an advisory board, attend public meetings or just call occasionally with an issue or an idea – you are a part of what makes our community strong.”
