The 2010 Republican Party of Texas (RPT) State Convention will be held at the Dallas Convention Center on June 11 and 12. The following information should be of use to you if you plan to attend:

The Republican Party of Texas was scheduled to send out during the week of April 19 post cards to all Republicans who were selected as Delegates or Alternates to the State Convention. The post cards will include registration instructions for the Convention.

Purpose – At the 2010 RPT State Convention, Delegates will elect a State Party Chairman and State Party Vice-Chairman, who by the Texas Election Code must be of different gender. Each State District Caucus will select a State Committeeman and State Committeewoman who will serve on the State Republican Executive Committee. In addition, Delegates will adopt the 2010 State Party Platform.

Registration - You can register as a Delegate or Alternate via the www.Texasgop.org web site. Once you reach the site, click on the 2010 Convention icon, then on ‘Pre-registration’. The Party is asking all Delegates and Alternates to pay a $35 facilities fee to help cover convention expenses, as has been done in previous years.

Guests – You can order a guest pass on the site. There is a $25 charge for a guest pass for those at least 18 years of age. Children under 18 may receive a guest pass at no charge.

Hotels – The Hyatt Regency Dallas is the main hotel and has been fully booked. The Crowne Plaza is the second choice hotel, followed by the Westin when the Crowne Plaza is fully booked. All three hotels are on DART train lines.

Transportation and Parking – Parking at the Convention Center is extremely limited, and all Convention attendees are urged to use the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) system. The RPT is working with DART to have addition train cars and possibly buses for the Convention. If you would like to purchase DART day passes ($4), you may do so via the RPT web site.

Volunteer Opportunities - The Convention, which is the largest political Convention in the United States and possibly the world, could not run without hundreds of volunteers. Volunteers are needed to man registration desks; to act as Sergeants at Arms on the convention floor, in Senate District Caucuses and at DART stations; and to act as pages throughout the Convention. Registration forms for all volunteer opportunities are available on the RPT web site. Pages must be between the ages of 15 and 18, and there application form must be signed by either the prospective pages State Republican Executive Committeeman, State Committeewoman, or by their County Chairman. The deadline for turning in volunteer forms is May 25, 2010.

Convention Center – The General Sessions and the Prayer Rally will be held in Exhibit Hall F, the newest of the Convention Center’s exhibit halls. The room is over 200,000 square feet in area with no pillars to block views. In addition, all caucus meetings will be held in meeting rooms, unlike the last Dallas convention (2002) when some caucuses were held is curtained off areas of the Convention Center garage.

Additional Information – Additional information about the State Convention can be found at the RPT website.
