Receives five Best of Category Awards

The McKinney ISD Communications Department was honored by the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) in Austin, Texas for its ongoing communication initiatives, including the McKinney ISD website and a number of print and electronic media efforts. The district received five Best of Category awards, the highest honor a district can receive by the organization. In addition, McKinney ISD was awarded 12 Gold Star awards and one Silver Star award. The awards were announced at the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Star Awards Celebration during the association’s annual conference in Austin.

“We are honored to have received recognition for our communication efforts,” said Cody Cunningham, Assistant to the Superintendent for Communications. “Earning one Best of Category Award is significant, but to have received the top award in the state in five areas was both unexpected and exciting. While we appreciate the recognition, we know there is much work to be done as the appetite for communication is insatiable. We’ll continue our efforts to find creative ways to communicate with our students, parents, and the public.”

Each year, TSPRA recognizes communicators in school districts, education foundations, education associations and organizations for their outstanding work in both print and electronic media. This year, 1,032 entries were received from school districts across the state.

Entries selected as the best in the state were honored with Best of Category Awards while other outstanding entries received Gold Star Awards and Silver Star Awards. Crystal Commendation Awards were presented for outstanding entries that featured special programs and events, and a Platinum Award, was given for the best comprehensive communication program.
