The keynote speaker, George Farr, is the former CEO of Children’s Medical Center, serving for 29 years and a life-long children’s advocate. He shared the importance of everyone’s responsibility to ensure the safety, love and stability of the children within our community. This core value resonates with the mission of Star Children’s Charity. Farr shared, “it is our responsibility to raise money for the children who are in need to make the next generation better than we are. Children are the greatest resource on Earth.” He reminded Star’s members to be the voice of the children and educate others the importance of giving to support them.
In addition to Farr’s inspirational messages, each of the seven Star Children’s Charity beneficiaries shared an update of the projects that Star is funding with compelling stories of the children’s lives touched, and even saved due to the funding provided by Star Children’s Charity.
Star distinguishes itself by providing funding for capital improvements, significant expansion of programs and endowments that otherwise may not get funded from the agency’s own fundraising and operational budgets. Since its inception in 2007, Star Children’s Charity has committed to being a leading voice of philanthropy in Collin County, dedicated to financially supporting non-profit organizations that benefit the well being of children and their families. A goal of $1.4 million was determined based on the needs of the selected beneficiaries: Boys and Girls Club of Collin County, Children’s Medical Center at Legacy, CITY House, Crossroads Family Services, Plano Children’s Medical Clinic, The Samaritan Inn and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano.
